Work is Purpose

Recently I read a post on Instagram about a tennis player who – at the age of 26 – didn’t want to play on the ATP-Tour anymore. He said that instead he would take time for spending time with friends. The first thought that came to mind after reading this post was, “How will this tennis player continue to earn a living?” Apparently, this wasn’t a concern of his, and if he already has enough money at the age of 26 to live without working – good for him. But whether you have to work to earn money for a living or not, working, doing your job, pursuing a career isn’t only a question of making money but also a question of searching for and finding a purpose in life, a calling, something that contributes to the world. It seems like the here mentioned tennis player didn’t see this aspect of his work yet.
