Change the World

Steve Jobs once famously challenged the CEO of Pepsi, John Scully, to work for him at Apple by saying: "Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to come with me and change the world?" With all the products and inventions that Apple brought on the tech market, one can indeed say that Jobs changed the world more than a certain soft drink did. But the question today is whether these changes were all for the good. The development of the smartphone - for example - surely brought many amenities to life. On the other hand, seeing people together in restaurants, school yards, etc. staring on their phones without talking to one another anymore makes more and more people wish to turn back time to a world without internet and smartphones.

Our human perspective is incomplete, what looks good on one day can be perceived as bad a decade later. Therefore, it is not good to measure our lives according to human standards like "earning the most money" or "changing the world." To measure our lives we have to turn to godly, eternal standards and values. One day every human being will stand before his Creator and will be measured by Him. Having had success solely from a human point of view will not help on that day; as Jesus said: "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" Matthew 16:26 (NIV)
