Summer of 69

This song by Bryan Adams tells of different happenings from his youth during the summer of 1969, entering into the conclusion that "those were the best days of my life." It looks like a blueprint for people nowadays: The time of youth is glorified. People do all kinds of exciting things - often without maintaining any rules or boundaries. And in the following decades one looks back and retells the great stories of this time because life never got better, never even got close to that era.

I think that is a sad story. Because life is meant to be full of anticipation about the things to come at every stage - no matter which age. "The best is yet to come" is a better approach than walking through life, looking back and telling stories of the past.

But could it be that the way people live their youth is basically a set up that things later in life don't work out so much? If you live a youth in excess without boundaries and rules, you might enjoy this for a relatively short period of time. But in the long run things don't always work out for you. Sooner or later, you'll eat the fruits of the lifestyle of your youth. Committing to God's laws - to His masterplan - right from the beginning, makes it more likely that your life is worth living at every age and not only in your youth.
